Dean Announces Reorganization of the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Culture and Communication

December 17, 2014

Last week, the University approved the college’s request to reorganize the Department of Culture and Communication into four distinct departments. Those units, and their respective leadership, are as follows:

Wes Shumar Ron Bishop Rob Kane Kelly Joyce

Murasko said she believes the reorganization falls in line with the first priority of their Strategic Plan, which calls for “refin[ing] the organization of the college.” The move was made with the school’s growing programs and student population in mind.

“With these four distinct departments, faculty and students in these areas will be better supported in developing disciplinary strengths that can best contribute to interdisciplinary efforts in the future,” Murasko wrote in a letter to students, faculty and staff of the college Tuesday.

A second phase of the reorganization is planned for the 2015-16 academic year. It will include the combination of the International Area Studies and Modern Languages programs into one Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages, while the Department of History and Politics will split into two distinct units.
