Drexel Biology is excited to announce that Dr. Shivanthi Anandan was awarded a SEED grant from Drexel's ExCITE Center. The project, entitled Biophilic Interior Living: Prototypes for Production, is a collaboration with Professor D.S. Nicholas (Westphal College of Media Arts and Design) and students Rita Truongcao (Interior Architecture and Design), and Will Char (Civil and Architectural Engineering). It aims to develop consumer hydroponics systems to grow algae for use in the production of nitrogen rich fertilizer. These systems will also be used as growing units to produce food, like tomatoes and cucumbers, within an indoor urban environment. Work is set to take place in the Dornsife Center and the Drexel Smart House.
