Physics Colloquium: Particle Physics: A Glimpse at the Universe
Thursday, January 19, 2017
3:30 PM-4:30 PM
Amita Raval, PhD, Elsevier
Crowned by the discovery of the Higgs Boson in 2014, the Standard Model has been remarkably successful at describing the world as we know it for now. I will briefly review the history of particle physics from the discovery of the electron, underlining the major role played by particle colliders. Time permitting, I will also talk about the benefits this type of fundamental research continues to bring to society.
