Drexel’s Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematical Statistics is for students interested in the collection and analysis of data using mathematical and computational methods.

Drexel’s Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematical Statistics is for students interested in the collection and analysis of data using mathematical and computational methods.

Statistics is an ever-evolving arena; it plays a significant role in the growth of modern data science and machine learning. From a streaming service using viewer data to determine which programs to produce to a school district deciding if its math curriculum works, statisticians play a crucial role in identifying problems and finding solutions. Statisticians address complex challenges across many different sectors: agriculture, medicine, engineering, politics, education, pharmaceuticals, public health, the technology sector, manufacturing, media and finance.

Mathematical Statistics majors receive a robust grounding in modern statistical analysis while learning how to apply their knowledge. Drexel offers a wide range of electives that allows students to experience statistics in their chosen field, better positioning them for a career or advanced education. Theoretical courses provided by the Mathematics Department give students a deep understanding of how and why modern statistical analysis works. They gain the knowledge to adapt and extend existing skills to new settings and a solid foundation to develop novel quantitative tools to tackle tomorrow’s problems.

Co-operative Education Tracks

Drexel’s renowned co-operative education program encourages students to gain up to three six-month periods of full-time employment to explore career options, gain hands-on experience in their fields of interest, build their résumé and foster a professional network.

Mathematical Statistics majors may choose from the following co-op tracks:

  • Three Co-op (Five years)
  • One Co-op (Four years)
  • No Co-op (Four years)

Students who elect the No Co-op option are not required to pursue studies during summer terms. However, students in this track may elect to take one six-month period of co-op employment during the spring and summer terms of their junior year.

Careers

Drexel students can look forward to countless applications for their degrees. Mathematical Statistics majors are valuable prospects for employment across a wide variety of industries as well as in research settings. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of mathematicians and statisticians is expected to grow 31 percent from 2021 to 2031; much faster than the average for all occupations.
