Dean's Seminar: Sustainable Cities

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

3:00 PM-4:30 PM

All around the world people and governments face an urgent question: How do you make the transition to more environmentally sustainable and socially just cities? Too much fossil-fuel based transport and inefficient buildings are driving global warming — pushing the planetary climate toward a dangerous tipping point. Automobile-dependent cities are also struggling with immediate dysfunctions including air pollution, congestion and failing urban infrastructure as the changing climate brings floods, blistering heat and devastating storms.

What makes a city "sustainable" and what can we do to sustain urban forms of life in the 21st century? CoAS experts in politics, philosophy, history, environmental engineering and climate change will weigh in on these urgent questions.
