Become a Nursing Leader

 |
Do you have what it takes to become a nurse?
- Good people skills
- Intelligent
- Caring
- Can think on your feet
|
For those of you who want facts:
- 1 million new nurses will be needed by 2020 (HRSA, 2006).
- Our society is aging which is creating a demand for nursing services
in chronic care, home care, and long term care.
- Consumer awareness of the nursing shortage remains limited; however, the negative effect it will have on patient safety,
healthcare quality, and access to healthcare will become more apparent in years to come.
- As the demographics of the nation rapidly change, it is expected that minority populations such as Hispanics/Latinos and Blacks will continue to increase substantially by the year 2025.
- The nursing shortage is compounded by the fact that there are not enough nursing students in the pipeline to fill even the needs of today
- The majority of those entering the profession continue to
be white females which is problematic
- Currently, only 2% of the nursing workforce is Hispanic or
Latino, and 5% are Black (HRSA, 2004)
- The nursing workforce must become more representative of
minorities, immigrants and men.
- A more culturally diverse workforce is needed to provide comprehensive culturally competent care.
Are you up to it ?

- Annielette Manuel: "I never knew there was so much you had to know. The patients and their families are so grateful for all the things you do. It's a great feeling to know you made a difference."
