Student Sandra Brinkman-Denney Published in International Nursing Journal

December 19, 2013 — Recent graduate Sandra Brinkman-Denney’s capstone manuscript, entitled “An International Comparison of the Clinical Trials Nurse Role,” was published in the December issue of the British journal, Nursing Management-UK. Her article was the cover story.

Brinkman-Denney graduated from the College’s Master’s in Clinical Trials Program after completing her winter 2013 practicum at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She now works as a research nursing specialist in the newly created Department of Research Nursing at the NIH Clinical Center, where she has been assigned to the clinical immunology section.

Her capstone research looked at collaborative competencies relating to issues ranging from protocol assessment and informed consent, to the research team and study site management. She found that the clinical trials nurse’s advanced specialty role in clinical trials research meets the standard requirement of professional nursing practice in the U.S., but she also acknowledged the fact that more research is needed to clarify the role of CTN’s.
