    Bradt serves on NIH panel on Music and Health Research for Brain Disorders of Aging

    What do models of music-based interventions look like? What are the best metrics to track outcomes? These are some of the questions the National Institutes of Health (NIH) hopes to answer in a series of three virtual meetings continuing our interest in music and health research through the development of evidence-based music therapies for brain disorders of aging.

    Joke Bradt, PhD, a professor in the Creative Arts Therapies department, is serving on the panel whose first of these meetings, Laying the Foundation: Defining the Building Blocks of Music-Based Interventions, will take place on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, from 1 to 5 p.m. ET. Held in collaboration with the Foundation for the NIH and the Renée Fleming Foundation, the meeting will feature a presentation by Dr. Shai Silberberg, director of research quality at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, on scientific rigor, reproducibility, and the predictive value of preclinical research. Roundtable discussions will follow to gather input on the creation of a toolkit for research on music and health across the lifespan.

  • Collaboration Creates Drexel Deliveries

    CNHP Undergraduate Nursing and the Center for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation and Practice (CICSP) collaborated to create “Drexel Deliveries. Students in the Reproductive Health course participated in a live simulated delivery to fill the content gap presented by clinical experiences due to COVID-19. Students care for mom or baby while engaging in active, hands on educational activities.

  • Bryl and Goodill Published in American Journal of Dance Therapy

    Karolina Bryl, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies and Sherry Goodill, PhD, a clinical professor and chair of the Department of Creative Arts Therapies at Drexel University, published an article in the American Journal of Dance Therapy.

    The article, Development, Execution and Acceptance of a Manualized Dance/Movement Therapy Treatment Protocol for the Clinical Trial in the Treatment of Negative Symptoms and Psychosocial Functioning in Schizophrenia, describes in detail the development of manualized dance/movement therapy treatment protocol for a clinical trial on the negative symptoms and psychosocial functioning in individuals with schizophrenia. It provides a comprehensive description of the step-by-step process of the creation and implementation of the intervention manual, and it offers a guideline to help researchers conceptualize, develop, pilot, revise and execute the treatment protocol.

  •  ICPSR Summer Programs

    ICPSR Summer Programs Registration is open, and Scholarship applications are being accepted for the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research.

    All programs for 2021 will be virtual. The four-week sessions will run June 21 – July 16, and July 19 – August 13; see full schedule of four-week sessions here. The summer program short workshops focus on specific methodological techniques (both quantitative and qualitative). From May through August, there will be two to three hours of daily instruction spread over one to two weeks.

    Our membership in ICPSR provides a significant discount in the course registration fees, but scholarships are available, including specific funding for graduate students from under-represented groups. With no travel costs for this year’s virtual programs, this is a great opportunity to recommend to your graduate students!
