Leland "Rocky" Rockstraw, PhD, RN, is a Clinical Professor of Nursing at Drexel, where he started in July of 2001. He teaches across the spectrum of both graduate and undergraduate nursing where his focus is online learning and relationship based care. 

Under his tenure at the college, he has lead the creation of a new centralized college wide department which provides support in IT, online learning technologies, web design, clinical & simulation practice, and ‘just in time technology education’ to faculty, staff and students. In January of 2007 he led the opening of the Center for Interdisciplinary Clinical Simulation and Practice (CICSP) simulation labs which consist of 10 simulation suites outfitted to simulation patient centered examination rooms. July of 2010 marked the opening of the next phase of simulation at the college with large configurable human patient simulation rooms (medical, critical care, labor & delivery, operating, & emergency rooms as well as a community environment) a ‘faculty centered’ control room, simulation board/debriefing room, and additional support computer labs.

Rockstraw specializes in Critical Care Nursing (trauma/surgical), Healthcare Simulation (Standardized Patient & Human Patient Simulation), Healthcare Informatics.

Professional Society:

Leland Rockstraw, PhD, is active in several professional organizations having served as VP of Finance for the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning and Treasurer for the Nu Eta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. He is also a member of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators, the Society for Medical Simulation, the American Nursing Informatics Association, the American Nurses Association, and Pennsylvania State Nurses Association and has presented nationally on a variety of nursing, health sciences, simulation, management and learning resource center topics. He has assisted numerous academic institutions in developing programs in the use of Human Patient Simulation (HPS), Standardized Patient (SP), handheld technology, and has traveled to the foot hills of the Himalayas in India to introduce technology. He serves on the Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board, and the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers Clinical Education Task Force. He is a Co-Investigator for the Pennsylvania/District of Columbia Nursing Education Technology Collaborative, Faculty Development: Integrating Technology into Nursing Education and Practice, a near $1.5 million, five year project funded by HRSA, Department of Health and Human Services.
