Dr. Johnson is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed clinical social worker, and an accredited family mediator, with post-graduate training in family therapy at Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic, and in divorce mediation at the Center for Dispute Resolution of Rutgers University.
Dr. Johnson has both clinical and research interests in the following areas: community (and jail) functioning of people with serious mental illness, prisoner readjustment to society, mentally ill substance abusers, family stress and coping adaptation, couples in conflict, post-divorce family processes, adoptive families, cross-cultural studies, and developing assessment instruments for couple and family functioning.
Dr. Johnson is a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Assn. for Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT), and a member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), an organization of family therapy trainers and researchers; and the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), an organization of family studies scholars.
