The Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program of Drexel University brings those who have an interest in the healing potential of the arts into the health care network. You will learn how to transform arts experiences into a wide variety of helping relationships and psychotherapeutic interventions for patients and clients of all ages. The Creative Arts in Therapy Program offers the Master of Arts degree with specialization in Art Therapy , Dance/Movement Therapy or Music Therapy.
The Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program is a 90-quarter credit curriculum. We encourage full time enrollment, yet part-time study is available and arranged on an individual basis.
The curriculum is designed to provide instruction in content areas required for licensure as a professional counselor in many states. This includes courses in human development, appraisal and assessment, clinical diagnosis, group therapy, multicultural perspectives, research, ethics, psychotherapy skills and career counseling.
The two-year
program offers the master of arts degree and leads to eligibility
to take board certification exams and/or registration in art, dance/movement,
or music therapy.
Our curriculum integrates theoretical, interactive and experiential learning on campus with practical learning in the field.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program is to provide our students with the most comprehensive and the highest quality education in their respective Creative Arts Therapy discipline. This education consists of an integration of the following program elements: didactic, clinical, supervisory, research and professionalism. It is our goal that this education will prepare students to provide ethical, effective and empathic care to those whom they will treat during their professional careers in the Creative Arts Therapies.
The Program Philosophy:
The philosophy that has guided the design and operation of the Creative Arts in Therapy Program is based upon several key concepts. They are:
- Communication through the arts has intrinsic healing potential.
- The study and understanding of human development
and human behavior in individuals, groups, families and cultures is foundational in the education of therapists.
- The understanding of creativity and self expression, through non verbal and verbal forms, is essential to becoming an Art, Dance/Movement or Music Therapist.
- Participation and immersion in didactic, experiential,
clinical and supervisory educational experiences are necessary components in learning, and require an in-vivo, face-to-face pedagogical approach.
- The understanding of the self in relationship to others is essential for conducting therapy.
- The ability to communicate, interface, and collaborate with other professionals and lay people is essential for the clinical practice and development of the Creative Arts Therapies.
