The Center for Interprofessional Clinical Simulation and Practice (CICSP) is an innovative, experiential learning setting that provides a reflective practice model of teaching and learning for undergraduate and graduate students. Diverse clinical and community settings are created where learners can hone clinical decision-making and leadership skills to become practice-ready clinicians. Our team of simulation specialists and faculty value creating a psychologically safe learning environment where mistakes are viewed as puzzles to be solved, and learners are supported to engage in critical self-reflection to develop their clinical and leadership expertise.

This 18,000-square-foot innovative experiential learning lab allows faculty to immerse learners in domain-specific skills training, experience patient or client encounters in the community (a simulated apartment), outpatient care settings and inpatient care settings including operating rooms. Learners can experience patients and families, portrayed by actors, moving throughout the healthcare continuum.

Our comprehensive, hands-on learning model provides the optimal environment for students to develop foundational skills, learn from mistakes and become practice-ready clinicians and leaders in their fields.

The center embraces an interprofessional model and actively partners within the College of Nursing and Health Professions and across the University to provide diverse learning opportunities with different professions. Preparing our future clinicians to practice and communicate in teams and understand different perspectives will arm them with the requisite skills to care for future patients and clients.

CICSP VISION STATEMENT

CICSP provides simulation-based education in four major modalities: standardized patient lab; fully immersive simulation; skills lab and virtual telehealth. Our model is to be a service department to the faculty and students of CNHP and facilitate transformative learning in a psychologically safe context. We continually strive to provide evidence-based education and work in a deliberatively developmental manner.
