Creating Links

Links are an essential component of any website. They help users to navigate from page to page within your Sitecore website, to navigate onto other non-Sitecore websites, and to download files like PDFs and PPTs.

There are two types of links: Internal Sitecore links and external hyperlinks.

Internal Sitecore Links

Internal Sitecore links are used when linking to other Sitecore pages or to files hosted on Sitecore's Media Library. These links are special because Sitecore can dynamically edit them across a site when a page or file is renamed or removed. This prevents broken links and eases site maintenance, especially when there are multiple people contributing to a single site.

External Hyperlinks

External hyperlinks are used when linking to non-Sitecore websites. For example, a link to a Philadelphia Inquirer article would be an external hyperlink. They are the standard http://www.example.com syntax and must be manually updated if changes in the address occur.
