An administrative and/or academic department can render it's news articles via a news template that can be sorted by month and year using the dataset component.  This is often referred to as the news mover.  Also, news can be sorted by Most Recent of Upcoming News and displayed on a site's homepage.  

Go to the College of Engineering to see an example of a news rendering.  The Recent News lists the 3 most recent articles with a link to the full listing of news.  Click on each article to see an example of how an article is displayed using the news template.
