Health and Wellness
OUR GOAL: Collaborating to Offer More Health and Wellness Resources for Residents
Drexel University believes in a collaborative approach to improving health and wellness opportunities in ourcommunity. From new partnerships to increased healthy food options for local residents to support for after-school athletic programs, Drexel is working closely with its neighborhood partners to identify
new wellness opportunities that benefit our neighbors of all ages.
Through the Dornsife Community Health Center, we offer health services, wellness programs, screenings and information, as well as nutrition education, cooking classes and exercise programs. Our twin kitchens provide healthy meals and cooking demonstrations, using produce grown in the Dornsife Center’s own gardens.
We believe that access to fresh and healthy food is critical for the health and wellness of the community. Drexel has worked closely with the West Philadelphia Fresh Food Hub, a mobile market that offers fresh produce and dry goods in the community, and has transformed vacant land in Mantua into a Green Resource Center. Both initiatives expand opportunities for nutrition and increase the availability of locally-grown produce. Our students learned alongside community residents in our side-by-side culinary courses on food traditions and food preservation.
