Recognition, Collaboration, Inspiration: CCI Research at Drexel, an R1 Doctoral University

The College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) faculty’s outstanding research has drawn recognition and grants from government bodies, branches of the military and philanthropic leaders. Drexel CCI faculty members have furthered their research through collaboration with other educational institutions, such as the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of North Carolina, among others.

Drexel CCI Faculty Grant Awards

A number of Drexel CCI faculty members have been honored with significant awards, showcasing their exceptional contributions to research and education. Notably, nine faculty members have received the distinguished National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, recognizing their impactful work in advancing the frontiers of knowledge. Three faculty members have been named among Fulbright US Scholars, highlighting their commitment to global collaboration and innovation. Notable Recognition

In 2022, Drexel University sustained its designation as an R1 Doctoral University, the highest level of research activity identified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Drexel is one of 146 institutions out of approximately 3,900 to receive this prestigious classification, indicating the highest level of research activity, and is one of only 39 private universities to earn the distinction.

Drexel University is a proud member of the U.S. AI Safety Consortium (led by the National Institute of Standards and Technology) and a longstanding member of the National Security Agency Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (NSA CAE-CD).

A June 2020 report by the George W. Bush Institute and Opus Faveo Innovation Development named Drexel University the most innovative mid-sized research university in the country.

Drexel CCI participates in BPCnet, an initiative supported by the National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Computer & Information Science & Engineering (CISE).
