Lutron

Corporate Partner Profile: Lutron

Founded in 1961, Lutron Electronics is headquartered in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. From dimmers for the home, to lighting management systems for entire buildings, the company offers more than 15,000 energy-saving products, sold in more than 100 countries. In the US alone, Lutron products save an estimated 10 billion kWh of electricity, or approximately $1 billion in utility costs per year. The company’s early inventions— including the first solid-state electronic dimmer invented by Lutron’s founder, Joel Spira—are now at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

Lutron, which has been a participant in Drexel’s cooperative education program for two years, offers opportunities for students at their engineering office in Philadelphia (conveniently located just a few blocks from Drexel’s campus) and at their global headquarters in Coopersburg. The Lutron co-op programs can accommodate co-op term lengths from 10 weeks to 9 months at either location. Students who participate in co-op with Lutron will receive a formal mid-term and end-of-term written evaluation from their supervisor identifying their strength and development in each of four key areas: technical/functional skills, leadership potential, communication/interpersonal skills, and imagination/creativity. Each co-op student manages their own project responsibilities and has the opportunity to present their technical work to a team of senior engineers at the end of their term.

If you’re looking for a company culture that encourages its employees to try new things, Lutron fits the bill – inventiveness and learning are supported throughout the organization. In its effort to foster growth and skill development for its employees, Lutron created a professional development program for its employees called Lutron University. The program offers on-site technical and professional training taught by university professors, nationally recognized training consultants, and experienced professionals from Lutron. Lutron University also manages the company’s 100% tuition reimbursement program. In addition to formal training and education, Lutron offers opportunities for meaningful and challenging project work, a fast-paced team environment, social & professional events, and a mentor program to ensure that employees have everything they need to expand their skillset and advance their career.

Joining the Corporate Partners Program has allowed Lutron to engage even further with top-notch software students, to become embedded in the Philadelphia tech community, and to recruit top talent who can continue to develop Lutron’s cutting-edge software and innovative work. As a CCI corporate partner, Lutron hopes to continue to develop their relationship with Drexel students and faculty and recruit top software engineering talent.
