Office of the Provost Seeks Applications for Advisory Student Circle

The Dragon'24 - Provost's Advisory Student Circle

Over the next decade, Drexel University will conduct initiatives that will significantly enhance the academic experience for all students.

Imagine the reinvention of what it means nationally to be a college graduate - next generation graduates immersed in practical expertise with classical/theoretical underpinnings.

Envision a new Innovation Neighborhood that will be a signature for this type of scholarly engagement and a physical presence that will redefine the area around the 30th Street Station, the City of Philadelphia, and the Northeast corridor.

This is Drexel University in 2024 and fittingly the next Chinese Zodiac Year of the Dragon!!

In preparation for this decade of innovation and change, the Office of the Provost will initiate a new advisory and ambassadorial circle of students to help usher the university into this exciting new future.

The Dragon'24 will consist of 24 student leaders representing our best and brightest from the diversity of programs, backgrounds, and cultures present at Drexel. Selections will be made from across the disciplines and the selection process will include the following factors: a genuine love and sense of pride for Drexel University, leadership potential, communication skills, academic excellence, and the inclination to meet new people representing the University. The Dragon'24 will meet quarterly with the Provost and discuss creative new ideas with respect to Drexel's academic mission. The goal is to continually enhance the academic environment on our campuses from the perspective of our most engaged students. The Dragon'24 will:
  • conduct face-to-face brainstorming sessions with the Provost and other senior Drexel administrators;
  • foster collaborations with other smart, ambitious students to make a lasting, positive difference in the educational experience at Drexel;
  • gain a greater understanding of Drexel University and generally the challenges in higher education;
  • travel, if available, with faculty/administration to communicate the Drexel Advantage;
  • meet and network with alumni, business leaders, campus administrators, and future students; and,
  • serve the University and its alumni as hosts and hostesses for various functions, prospective student recruiting, and other designated University events.
Dragon'24 Membership

Dragon'24 membership is open to all full-time students who will graduate after Spring 2017. With this being the inaugural and founding group, the term will be for 18 months from January 2016 through June 2017. This inaugural group will help to develop a detailed charter for the group. Members will be selected by a University Advisory Council appointed and chaired by the Provost. Although it is understood that a student's first priority is academic endeavors, Dragon’24 students are expected to be actively engaged in the activities and represent the university with maturity and professionalism.

Application Process

The application process will be somewhat nontraditional. Applicants should create a video that either discusses a vision for Drexel University or highlights a current unique strength of the institution. Videos should be submitted electronically, by e-mail, to Donna McVicker, donna.t.mcvicker@drexel.edu, Director of Provost Operations and Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Provost Brian Blake. Students can feel free to send the video file or just post it on-line and send a link. Within the email body should be the student's full name, contact information, degree program(s), and number of earned credit hours. Students should send videos that are original and provocative, but by submitting the videos they implicitly agree that the material can be used in Dragon'24 initiatives.
