University of Tennessee, Knoxville Presents Danuta Nitecki with Distinguished Alumni Award

Danuta A. Nitecki, PhD, dean of Drexel University Libraries and professor at the College of Computing & Informatics (CCI), attended graduation ceremonies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) on May 8, where she was presented the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Information Sciences (SIS), College of Communications and Information. The SIS Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes a meritorious career based on service, teaching and scholarship, honors SIS graduates who have demonstrated professional achievement or leadership attributable to their education at the School. Winners are recognized at the School’s graduation and awards ceremony held in May. Nitecki received a master of science degree in communications from SIS in 1976.

Nitecki's primary research interests focus on library metrics and use in management, library as place, and academic library service models. Her professional experience includes administrative positions in large academic research libraries, publishing, and teaching in both classroom settings as well as online professional development programs. Prior to coming to Drexel, Nitecki held administrative positions in libraries of the Universities of Tennessee, Illinois, Maryland and Yale. Prior teaching experiences include graduate courses in library research methods and evaluation at universities in U.S. and Parma, Italy, and professional online series through the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).

In addition to her degree from SIS, Nitecki earned her doctorate in library and information service from the University of Maryland, College Park, a master of science in library science from Drexel University, and a bachelor of arts (senior honors) in art history from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
