Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) warmly welcomes the following new faculty members:
Jake Williams, PhD
Williams joined CCI’s
Department of Information Science this fall as assistant teaching professor. Williams’ research interests include data science, computational social science, natural language processing, mathematics, machine learning, scientific programming and algorithms design. In addition, he has extended his work to linguistics and natural language processing and a large component of his current research is applied to social science, focusing on understanding collective action and political events through social media. He has taught a number of courses in undergraduate mathematics, and graduate coursework in scalable machine learning. Williams earned his doctorate in mathematical science, a master of science degree in mathematics and a bachelor of arts degree in Physics from the University of Vermont.
Vasilis Gkatzelis, PhD
Gkatzelis joined CCI’s
Department of Computer Science in summer 2016 as assistant teaching professor of computer science. Gkatzelis' research interests include algorithmic mechanism design, multiagent resource allocation and approximation algorithms. Prior to joining CCI faculty, Gkatzelis served as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences; at UC Berkeley's International Computer Science Institute and Simons Institute; and at Stanford University. Gkatzelis earned his doctorate and a master of science degree from New York University, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and a diploma from the University of Patras.
