CCI Students Recognized at 2016 Honors & Awards Ceremony

Drexel University College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) hosted the 2016 Honors and Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on May 26 at the Behrakis Grand Hall to celebrate and recognize undergraduate and graduate students for their exceptional academic achievements during the 2015-16 academic year.

The scholarships and awards were divided into three categories: undergraduate awards, graduate awards, and doctoral awards. Thirteen undergraduate students, 20 graduate students – including four doctoral students – received accolades at the ceremony. Click here to view photos from the event

In his opening remarks, CCI Interim Dean Spiros Mancoridis, PhD recognized the College’s academic advising team, who were recently awarded Drexel’s inaugural Innovation in Academic Advising Award, in recognition of their exceptional service to students and the University. Academic advisors Alison Stoute, Haley Dervinis, Greta Kazenski, and Eric Kennedy were also honored at the Provost Awards Dinner on May 25.

Information Science Department Head and Professo Ellen Bass, PhD, and Computer Science Department Head and Professor Dario Salvucci, PhD presented the scholarships and awards.

The College recognizes that without the sustained, generous support of our donors, these scholarships and awards would not be possible; the College is deeply grateful for their ongoing commitment to academic excellence and student success at CCI.

Undergraduate

Presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate student in recognition for academic excellence with the potential to become a star in the field.

Maple Founders Award

Presented annually to an outstanding junior or senior student in the area of computational science and engineering, who also shows potential for teaching or advanced work in computational or computer science.

James B. Maginnis Award

Presented annually to an upper division student majoring in computer science, in recognition of academic excellence.

Distinguished Service Award

Presented annually to an outstanding undergraduate student in recognition of exceptional service to the Department of Computer Science, College and University.

Outstanding Research Award

High-Performance Computing Award

Provides financial assistance to a CCI undergraduate student who will then receive the award every year that they maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

The Janet Chapman Muscarella Endowed Scholarship
Charles Maguire, BSIS
Awarded to CCI students based on financial need and academic merit.

The David ’68 and Fran Heffner Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Information Systems who demonstrates good character, strong work ethic, leadership, and good academic standing.

Edmund Kofi Arthur Memorial Scholarship

Donor: Jude Kofi Arthur, father of the late Edmund Kofi Arthur, who was a BS in information technology student.
This scholarship provides financial support for tuition and/or living expenses in on-campus housing to freshman students in CCI with demonstrated financial need and academic merit
