Post Master's Specialist Program

The five-course Post-Master's Specialist Program is available to those already holding a master's degree and wish to further focus their studies in a specific subject area. Specializations include: Archival Studies, Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management, Digital Libraries and Youth Services.

All five courses are required for the Post-Master's Specialist Program and must be completed in three years. Students who complete the five courses will have it recorded on their transcript and receive a credential entitled Archives Specialist, Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management Specialist, Digital Libraries Specialist, or Youth Services Specialist.

Archival Studies

The Post-Master's Specialist Program in Archival Studies prepares professionals for careers in archival settings, including government agencies, libraries, historical societies, corporations, not-for-profit organizations, museums, and religious institutions.

The program meets the needs of students who want to gain the skills necessary to work with archival records and papers in all formats. Courses focus on developing collections, arranging and describing materials, and making them available. The courses may also be of interest to students planning careers in special, public, and digital librarianship.

Digital Libraries

The Post-Master's Specialist Program in Digital Libraries prepares professionals to work with digital library systems, digital resources, collections, and services in a variety of settings, including academic, public, and special libraries. Courses focus on designing digital library interfaces, organizing and accessing digital collections, and using appropriate and cutting-edge technologies.

Youth Services

The Post-Master's Specialist Program in Youth Services focuses on the information needs of children and teens and on the design and provision of information services to meet those needs. Most graduates become librarians working with children and young adults in public libraries and other institutions.

Courses focus on assisting children and teens with the use and evaluation of information resources, organizing and manage libraries, developing web pages and portals to make resources available to youth and their caregivers and creating information environments that are supportive of youths' diverse backgrounds.

Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management

The Post-Master's Specialist Program in Competitive Intelligence and Knowledge Management prepares librarians to assume leadership roles in special library, corporate, and other organizational settings. The program helps students develop the skills necessary to provide organizations of all types access to the critical information and knowledge-based assets they need to support strategic decision making.

Courses focus on applying commonly used techniques to identify and evaluate an organization's knowledge-based assets, designing knowledge sharing opportunities within organizations and information services to meet organizational and information needs.
