September 17, 2018
Alyssa Martin, the Assistant Director of Assessment for CASTLE, N. John DiNardo, CASTLE’s Faculty Fellow, Adam Fontecchio, Director of CASTLE, and Jennifer Stanford, Co-Director of CASTLE, presented on the project called, “Tracking Experiential Learning Outcomes Across Three CAA Campuses” at the fifth annual Drexel Assessment Conference held September 12-14, 2018. This project is a collaborative effort between faculty and staff from Drexel University, the College of Charleston and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, which is funded by the Colonial Academic Alliance. During the session, the CASTLE team led a discussion on defining learning outcomes for experiential learning activities, introduced challenges and opportunities in the development of a standardized, validated assessment tool for experiential learning, and discussed how to integrate experiential learning opportunities into curriculum to enhance curricular student learning outcomes.
CASTLE also hosted a special session for the Assessment conference on the structure and implementation of pedagogical happy hour events to build faculty learning communities across disciplines and serve as professional development for faculty interested in developing as evidence-based educators. Participants learned how to organize and implement a faculty/staff learning community event at their home campuses through active participation in a pedagogical happy hour.
