On May 23, 2018, DragonsTeach Master Teacher Marlene Hilkowitz and Nicole Naranjo, a DragonsTeach Student, presented at the 12th Annual UTeach Conference at the University of Texas at Austin. In a session titled, “Implementing Thinking Strategies to Shift from Teacher to Student Centered Classrooms in Apprentice Teaching,” Hilkowitz and Naranjo shared best practices for UTeach faculty and students during student teaching experiences. Through an interactive presentation, participants engaged in thinking and discussing the obstacles encountered in Apprentice Teaching and shared solutions for addressing them. Naranjo also shared how, with the support of her University Supervisor, she met the challenge of shifting from a teacher-centered to a more student-centered classroom.
