HHMI Pedagogical Happy Hour with Daniel Marenda, PhD

Pedagogical Happy Hour

January 13, 2017

The CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour is a monthly program hosted by the Center for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning Excellence (CASTLE) and sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The is a new program aimed to provide Drexel faculty with an opportunity to discuss effective teaching practices in their classrooms.

The event offers a casual environment for faculty to share ideas about STEM teaching and learning; while enjoying refreshments.

The next CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour will be on Thursday, January 26th and features Daniel Marenda, PhD, Associate Professor; Director of the Biology Graduate Program, and Co-Director of the Cell Imaging Center. Dr. Marenda will speak on his experiences with teaching over 50 undergraduates integrating course-based research experiences.

If you would like to attend the event, please RSVP to hhmiprogram@drexel.edu

Please save the date for future events:
February 23, 2017: Daniel Christie, MS
March 23, 2017: Christina Love, Ph.D.

The CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour features a current faculty member who will present a brief overview of an effective teaching strategy utilized in their classroom or laboratory. The presentations are then followed by audience Q&A and discussion.

Speakers are self-nominated or nominated by other faculty members to discuss their own ideas and methods of STEM teaching and learning. CASTLE hopes this event will lead to greater conversation and debate on pedagogical methods employed in the classroom.
