DragonsTeach Winter Professional Development Series

The DragonsTeach STEM Teacher Education program is excited to announce a new series of Winter Professional Development events. The first event Unpacking the Language of STEM for English Language Learners, will be held on Wednesday, January 25 th from 4:30-6:30 pm and will be facilitated by Jayda Pugliese.

This interactive workshop presentation discusses practical, research-based strategies on how to address the needs of English Language Learners (ELL) in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology (STEM) courses. This workshop will help teachers embed their understandings of the language demands of STEM into their teaching of ELLs, so that students will be able to learn the language of the STEM which will provide ELLs improved academic success within content-area courses. 

Jayda Pugliese, the workshop facilitator, is a 5th Grade STEM teacher within the School District of Philadelphia. She is the recent recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award and was one of ten nationally recognized teachers for the Best in Education Award. Jayda holds a B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education and a M.Ed in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Literacy. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration. Jayda Pugliese is well-known for her innovative and differentiated teaching styles as well as her integration of various technologies, such as 3D Printing.
