CASTLE hosts second Pedagogical Happy Hour; features Dr. McEachron
November 30, 2016
The CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour is a monthly program hosted by the Center for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning Excellence (CASTLE) and sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The is a new program aimed to provide Drexel faculty with an opportunity to discuss effective teaching practices in their classrooms.
The event offers a casual environment for faculty to share ideas about STEM teaching and learning; while enjoying refreshments.
The next CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour will be on Thursday, December 1st and features Donald L. McEachron, PhD, Teaching Professor and Coordinator for Academic Assessment and Quality Improvement. Dr. McEachron will speak on the use of reflection as a learning tool. This pedagogical method has students review what they have learned to try to understand what is left to learn or what could be better grasped.
If you would like to attend the event, please RSVP to hhmiprogram@drexel.edu.
Please save the date for future events:
January 26, 2017: Daniel Marenda, Ph.D.
February 23, 2017: Daniel Christie, MS
March 23, 2017: Christina Love, Ph.D.
The CASTLE Pedagogical Happy Hour features a current faculty member who will present a brief overview of an effective teaching strategy utilized in their classroom or laboratory. The presentations are then followed by audience Q&A and discussion.
Speakers are self-nominated or nominated by other faculty members to discuss their own ideas and methods of STEM teaching and learning. CASTLE hopes this event will lead to greater conversation and debate on pedagogical methods employed in the classroom.
