Recent Happenings from Drexel CAEE Alumni

Drexel University’s Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) alumni have and continue to be on the forefront of engineering related achievements throughout Philadelphia and beyond.  Below are some recent updates from CAEE alumni.

Suzanne Chiavari, PE (BS 1985; MS 1993), Engineering Practice Leader at American Water, received a 2014 Women of Distinction award by the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey. 

Ms. Chiavari was also a recent participant of the Junior Achievement of New Jersey’s Annual South Jersey Women’s Future Leadership Forum consisting of top female executives and business leaders who came together to support some of New Jersey’s most promising high school-age girls.  The event was sponsored by Lockheed Martin and Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey.  More information can be found here.

Drexel University’s 2014 Alumni Association Awards were announced at the May Alumni weekend.  Darin Gatti, (BS 1982), Chief Engineer and Surveyor, Philadelphia Streets Department, received the Special Distinction Award which acknowledges an individual’s professional or community involvement as it reflects credit upon the University.  Dr. J. Richard Weggel (BS 1964; Samuel S. Baxter Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering) received the Golden Dragon Society Award for his outstanding service to and continuous involvement with the University.

Dr. Christine Fiori (BS 1992; MS 1994; PhD 1997) was the recent guest speaker at the Construction Management (CMGT) Program’s inaugural Joseph Lambert Sr. Distinguished Lecture at Drexel University on June 2nd.  Dr. Fiori is the Preston and Catharine White Fellow and Associate Director of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech.  Her presentation at Drexel was titled International Service Learning Experiences in Construction & Engineering Management.  More information can be found here.  While at Drexel, Dr. Fiori was a recipient of the Steven E. Giegerich Memorial Scholarship.

Dr. Michael J. McGuire, PE (MS 1972; PhD 1977) has been named interim editor in chief for the Journal American Water Works Association, effective June 1, 2014. Read article here.

Dr. Robert Muir (BS 1993; PhD 2012; Program Director Construction Management Department) was recently inducted into the Delaware Highway Hall of Fame by The First State Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) for his extraordinary service to Delaware's Transportation system and for the outstanding reputation he gained through his many years of service in so many different phases of the Highway Industry.  He was also recognized for his contributions to the American Society of Highway Engineers on both regional and local levels.
