Major: BS Environmental Engineering
Please describe your study/research interests and why.
My area of interest is primarily on water quality for developing countries. My interests have grown and evolved through my years at Drexel and in addition to water quality, I have explored my interests in urban hydrology and stormwater management. While my area of interest has varied, water has always been my focus within the Environmental Engineering program.
Please describe your co-op experience. Include where you worked, a brief description of your duties, and what you learned.
I completed my first co-op experience with The Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority. At this position, I was able to learn from experienced engineers who have worked in water treatment for several decades.
My second and third co-op experiences were both with The Philadelphia Water Department in the Planning and Research with the Stormwater Plan Review Group. In this position, my primary responsibly included reviewing private development plans for compliance to the stormwater management regulations. These regulations have been implemented in response to the Pennsylvania Stormwater Management Act administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. I also had the opportunity to model runoff scenarios for development sites to ensure that stormwater management practices would function appropriately. This position allowed me to understand the incredible impact of development in urban settings on stormwater runoff and urban hydrology. I have been able to learn first hand how Philadelphia has set goals to reduce the impact of development on our environment.
Please describe any extracurricular activities that you participate in.
I enjoy playing beach volleyball with friends on the Drexel sand courts. In the off-season, I play intramural volleyball with Philadelphia Sports and Social Club. I have participated in several Drexel organizations which have included writing for Drexel’s newspaper, the Triangle, participating in Drexel Commuter events where I wired a gingerbread house in a holiday gingerbread house decorating competition, partaking in the For Students By Students program, and attending meetings for the Sustainability Council.
In a few sentences, explain what you would like to do after graduation.
I plan to attend graduate school to get my doctorate degree. I hope to research and study water resources engineering with an emphasis on improving the water quality in developing countries.
In a few sentences, explain what you like about Drexel’s Engineering Program.
Drexel University’s College of Engineering has helped me reach my academic and professional goals through a rigorous program. I continue to enjoy the buzz of the city, which compliments the fast-paced terms and competitive co-op experiences. The COE program has prepared me for a future of success and fulfillment.
