amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research -- Exploring HIV Persistence
Deadline: September 27, 2012 (Letters of Intent)
Funding: Up to $180,000 in total costs including indirect costs of up to 20 percent/1 yr.
Purpose: Targeted support for biomedical research projects relevant to exploring the mechanisms for HIV persistence and the potential for HIV eradication. Understanding the mechanisms by which the virus is able to persist in the face of therapy is necessary in order to identify strategies that may interrupt viral persistence and ultimately lead to viral eradication. Will support basic, pre-clinical, clinical, and especially translational research exploring the mechanisms whereby HIV infection persists; the chronic nature of viral reservoirs and latency; and barriers to the eradication of HIV, with the potential goal of ultimately eliminating HIV infection.
Eligibility: Must hold doctoral degree, be affiliated with a nonprofit research institution. PIs need not hold faculty-level position.

Purpose: To engage researchers and drug makers focused on studying and/or therapeutically treating levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID).
Eligibility: Proposals may be submitted by US and non-US entities, public and private non-profit entities, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, units of state and local governments, and eligible agencies of the federal government and for-profit entities. Postdoctoral students or fellows are not eligible to apply as principal or co-principal investigators for this program.

Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research – Rapid Response Innovation Awards
Deadline: Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis
Funding: Up to $75,000 over one year (includes both direct and indirect costs)
Purpose: To provide support to high-risk, high-reward projects with little to no existing preliminary data, but with potential to significantly impact our understanding or treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD).
Eligibility: Proposals may be submitted by US and non-US biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies or other for-profit entities, either publicly or privately held. US and non-US entities, public and private non-profit entitles, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, units of state and local governments, and eligible agencies of the federal government. Postdoctoral fellows are eligible to apply as Principal Investigator (PI), but must collaborate with an Administrative PI who serves as the director of the laboratory in which the research will be conducted. The foundation encourages industry and academic collaborations.

Parkinson's Disease Foundation - International Research Grants Program*
Deadline: mid-November (Letter of Intent)
Funding: Up to $150,000 over two years
Purpose: Supports novel "high risk/high reward" research to generate preliminary data needed for future funding.
Eligibility: Must be independent investigators possessing postdoctoral training or a medical degree, with clinical, pre-clinical or basic research proposals that will directly impact Parkinson's disease or its treatment.

Thrasher Research Fund - E.W. “Al” Thrasher Award
Deadline: Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis.
Funding: Up to $300,000 over three years (including 7% in indirect costs).
Purpose: To support hypothesis-driven projects with innovative solutions that address significant health problems that affect children.
Eligibility: Doctoral-level degree is required.
