Turnitin
Turnitin checks students' work for improper citation or potential plagiarism. Files submitted to a Turnitin assignment are compared to an ever-growing database of web pages, newspapers, journals, books, and other students' papers. Each paper's comparison results are displayed with a color-coded chart indicating where similar blocks of text appear in Turnitin's database.
Turnitin includes a grading tool called Feedback Studio, which allows for online comments and feedback to be added directly to a student's submission. Instructors may also assign a grade to the student in Feedback Studio, which automatically flows to the Grade Center in Learn.
Instructors can create a Turnitin assignment in any content area of a course by going to the Build Content button, and selecting Turnitin Assignment.
Hints and Tips
- All grading for Turnitin assignments should be done through Feedback Studio. Instructors can access this by clicking on the assignment within the course, and then clicking on the title of a student's submission.
- Instructors can set a "Feedback Release Date" on their assignments, which controls when students can view comments on their submission. Even when instructors allow students to see their grades immediately, the comment visibility is still dependent on the Feedback Release Date.
- Turnitin assignments are automatically created with an adaptive release rule based on the original start date of the assignment. Instructors may want to delete this adaptive release rule.
Turnitin Draft Coach
This tool provides all users at Drexel the ability to check a file for similarity, see grammar recommendations, and a report on citations. This allows faculty to have students check their own work without having to submit it through a Turnitin Assignment in their Drexel Learn course. It also allows students to freely check their own work, at any time, to help avoid unintentional plagiarism, provide grammatical recommendations, and improve their citations.
Please note that this tool is only available for Word for the web through Drexel OneDrive. Turnitin Draft Coach cannot be added to the desktop version of Microsoft Word.
