6ABC's "Best of the Class" - Drexel University
On April 18 and 21, WPVI-TV (6-abc) previewed its “Best of the Class” special, filmed at Drexel University, which will air on May 18, 2013. Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services was interviewed. For the past 27 years, 6abc has been honoring the hard work and determination of students from each graduating class across the area.
Two-hundred-fifty high school seniors from Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware gathered for the annual salute to excellence, honoring these students for having the top grades of their class. Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

Market 16 & Noodle bar has been awarded the NACUFS 2013 “Best in the Business” Campus C-Store Award for excellence in the Foodservice Application category. Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services will accept this award during the 2013 NACUFS Conference in Minneapolis, MN. NACUFS, the National Association of College & University Food Services, supports college and university foodservice industry with the programs and resources, including benchmarking and best practices to educational programming and professional networking.
Market 16 & Noodle Bar, Drexel’s newest campus dining location, features a global flavor profile, fresh fruit and vegetables, rice and noodle bowls, a tea bar and sushi bar. The location at 34th & Market Streets takes advantage of a thriving street corner that includes heavy pedestrian traffic, public transportation access and is located in the first floor of the Drexel Parking Garage (#16 on the map!). Market 16 & Noodle Bar, which accepts DragonDollars and Dining Dollars, is the perfect place to have a cup of tea with a colleague or have a noodle bowl with friends.
Drexel Farmers Market 2013
The weekly Drexel Farmers Market can be found on the University City Main Campus on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m starting on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Now in its 5th year, Drexel Business Services is proud to feature the weekly offering of fresh vegetables and fruit to the campus community. The Farmers Market will be located at 33rd and Market Streets at the Dragon Statue. The market provides the Drexel community with the opportunity to purchase fresh and locally grown food from King’s Dutch Country Goods. A variety of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, canned and preserved fruits and vegetables, cheeses as well as yogurt are offered.
The Drexel Farmers Market is part of a growing interest in the farm-to-fork style of eating. Drexel Business Services continuously develops and implements sustainable, environmentally friendly initiatives on all three University campuses structured around three guiding principles: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. The partnership with our local vendor furthers this mission by bringing fresh and homemade goods to our Drexel community. Every Tuesday, the farmer is available for all patrons of the market to meet, get to know and ask questions about the food they are buying - an essential component of a local, sustainable food system.
Drexel Business Services designated as Certified Auxiliary Services Professionals
Congratulations to Rita LaRue, Senior Associate Vice President of Drexel Business Services and Jackie Gemenden, Director of Retail Management, for being amongst the inaugural class of higher education business and auxiliary professionals to be designated as Certified Auxiliary Services Professionals (CASP) by the National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS).
Along with meeting eligibility requirements in work and education, each passed a comprehensive exam assessing their knowledge in content areas necessary to perform the functions normally accomplished by a seasoned professional; according to the NACAS higher education work analysis, those content areas are:
- Marketing, Communications and Business Relations
- Student Services
- Operational Areas: Food Services, Bookstores, Card Services, Commercial/Retail, Physical Facilities
NACAS is the largest higher education auxiliary services support organization. The mission of NACAS is to provide professional development and leadership opportunities necessary for its members to be successful as they support higher education through auxiliary/campus services in an ever-changing environment.
