Housing

University housing for post-baccalaureate and graduate students is available in Stiles Hall, located on the Center City Campus. Stiles Hall offers furnished and unfurnished apartments and all utilities are included in the housing rate, including cable television, phone, and Internet access. More information regarding graduate housing and how to apply can be found on the University Housing website.

The University's Office of Off-Campus Housing maintains lists of area landlords and can help you with the basics of finding a place to live.

Average Rent

Apartment prices in Philadelphia vary widely based on size, amenities, and location. The following numbers are meant as a guideline only. Note: These numbers come from the University of Pennsylvania's Off-Campus Services Office.

University City and West Philadelphia

  • Efficiency/studio (one room): $595–$1,300 per month; average $650-$850
  • One bedroom: $645–$2,600 per month; average $750-$950
  • Two bedroom: $1,014–$3,300 per month; average $1,400-$2,000

Center City and Art Museum Area

  • Efficiency/studio (one room): $686–$1,676 per month; average $850-$1,100
  • One bedroom: $928–$3,300 per month; average $1,000-$1,500

Searching for Apartments

Drexel's student newspaper, The Triangle, features classified listings for apartments, houses, and roommates.

International House, located just a few blocks from Drexel on the University of Pennsylvania campus, offers relatively inexpensive housing for students from all over the world.

The University of Pennsylvania, Drexel's neighbor in University City, provides detailed search forms for apartments and roommates (house/apartment shares) on their Off-Campus Services website.

The city's major daily newspaper, The Philadelphia Inquirer, has searchable classified ads for apartments.

The apartment listings from Philadelphia's two weekly alternative newspapers are also a popular choice with students:

Additional Expenses

In addition to tuition and fees, estimated expenses for a single full-time student for three terms of study include $14,415 for living expenses in off-campus housing and $4,500 for estimated miscellaneous expenses. Miscellaneous expenses include, but are not limited to, health insurance, books, and personal expenses.
